All The Help You Need
Don't go cold turkey!
When you quit you'll experience some cravings, but these usually last for only four weeks or so. There are plenty of products to help ease you through this first month and beyond. Give up smoking with RedQUIT and save money too, as you'll be able to get a prescription for nicotine replacement products.
These include nicotine patches, gum, microtabs, lozenges, inhalators and nasal spray. A standard prescription charge of £6.85 will get you two weeks' supply. (It's free if you don't pay for prescriptions.)
Specialised medication is also available, but this is on prescription only. Zyban and the recently launched Champix don't contain nicotine, but ease any cravings by affecting the way the body and brain respond to nicotine. They are not available to under 18s or pregnant women.
A friend in need
By joining a group or speaking to a one-to-one advisor, you'll get all the support you need - and plenty of tips for coping with any cravings.
Our expert staff help you prepare for your quit date, which you set together. They are there to support you each step of the way over the next six or seven weeks.
Smokers who join one of the support groups do particularly well. People benefit from encouraging each other and sharing experiences.
The new, healthier you
Our advisors have loads of pointers to help you get the most from your new healthier lifestyle. They'll also give you tips on eating well - so no need to fall into the ex-smoker's trap of putting on weight!
You'll also receive advice on getting active. Stopping smoking improves both breathing and fitness levels, so you'll soon find yourself enjoying exercise a lot more.
